Payroll Specialist (Temporary)

Westmoreland Mining, LLC Estevan, Saskatchewan (Onsite) Full-Time

Position Summary 

Under direct supervision, responsible for the processing and audit of payroll for various hourly and salaried groups. This includes timely and accurate processing and transmission of payroll data for the company associates, maintenance of payroll files and correspondence with internal and external stakeholders on payroll inquiries.  

Supervisor Responsibilities  

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities over other employees.   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Verifying accuracy of timecards/timesheets, in accordance with company policies. 
  • Ensuring timecards/timesheets are input in a timely and accurate manner. 
  • Processing payroll and verifying accuracy of gross amounts and deductions. 
  • Issuing pay and transmitting payroll with deadlines.  
  • Administering and monitoring proper payment of various payroll benefits. 
  • Maintaining, filing, and recording all benefit related payments, payroll transactions, listings, and reports. 
  • Organizing company events.
  • Assuming other duties and responsibilities as may be required in response to changing circumstances and the economical and physical environment of the Company. 
  • Perform related work as required. 

Typical Physical Demands  

Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching.  Requires constant data input for extended periods of time without leaving the work area. Occasionally lifting files or paper weighing up to 30 pounds. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports. Requires mobility sufficient to travel. 

Typical Working Conditions  

Normal office environment. Occasional evening or weekend work. 

Education and Experience 

  • PCP designation preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of related experience. 
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
