THE OPPORTUNITY:

Westmoreland Mining Holdings LLC – Coal Valley Mine is currently offering an opportunity to make a difference in the sustainability and compliance of the mine site as a Senior Environmental Technician for our growing environmental team. 

This opportunity will be based at the Coal Valley Mine, just south of Edson, Alberta. As an export coal mine specializing in high quality coal, we have high expectations from our customers and you will help us deliver on them by providing exceptional environmental support in a safe, cost-effective, and responsible manner.

THE ROLE:

Under the supervision of the Environmental Superintendent, the Senior Environmental Technician is responsible for maintaining and ensuring environmental compliance throughout the 81 square kilometer mine. This will include:

  • Demonstrates a "Safety First" attitude
  • Assists in the planning and implementation of environmental programs and water management, including assisting in the supervision of contractors;
  • Provides technical advice to mine staff;
  • Prepares routine monthly and annual reports in compliance with government and company regulations;
  • Conducts routine monitoring in compliance with environmental permit requirements; ensuring quality control in the sampling (analysis and equipment) program;
  • Conducts regular environmental audits and maintains environmental monitoring and report records;
  • Assumes other duties and responsibilities, as required, in response to changing circumstances, and the physical and economic environment of the Mine and the Company.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University/Technical college graduate with 2-5 years of related experience in the field(s) of environmental studies. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Have the ability to learn quickly and maintain motivation even in the face of inevitable delays, setbacks, policy shifts and schedule changes.

We are looking for a versatile individual with outstanding interpersonal skills and a strong desire for success. Strong time management, efficient and accurate data entry skills, as well as oral and written communication skills are a requirement for this role.
