Job Description

Under the general direction of the Plant Manager supervise union personnel on rotating shifts while ensuring that the operation and maintenance of the Coal Valley Mine coal wash plant complies with authorized practices and procedures, and operational requirements are accomplished in a safe and efficient manner.

The Plant Supervisor will:

  • Supervise all personnel assigned to them on shift, including assignment of duties, evaluation of performance, training and recommendation for training while insuring safe work behaviors and practices.
  • Administer activities to ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures and union bargaining unit agreement.
  • Coordinate and direct work activities for daily operation of the plant and to effectively implement operational plans, ensuring safe work behaviors and practices.
  • Ensure effective coal quality control procedures are used; coordinate safe plant activities to maximize equipment availability and provide for preventive and scheduled maintenance in order to maximize availability.
  • Analyze operational/maintenance requirements and adjust priorities as required.
  • Administer and effective safety program conducting safety meetings as required.
  • Monitor and inspect work areas to assure area is safe and in compliance with all OH&S and company safety rules and regulations, correcting all unsafe conditions
  • Communicate status of work activities as needed with department manager or other departments.
  • Prepare or review reports as required to evaluate and document activities.

Job Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in Metallurgical or Mining Engineering or related degree; or the equivalent combination of work experience and related associates degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years of coal processing and plant experience with 2-3 years of supervision or directing others.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of operation and maintenance functions in a coal mining environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer applications, maintenance management software, and Microsoft standard office programs.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact with other supervisors, professionals, representatives and departmental staff from within and outside the company.
  • Successful candidate must be able to obtain a Mine Foreman Certification.
