THE OPPORTUNITY:

Westmoreland Mining Holdings LLC – Coal Valley Mine is currently looking for a Junior Mining Engineer to join our team of high performing engineers.

This opportunity will be based at the Coal Valley Mine, just south of Edson, Alberta. As an export coal mine specializing in high quality coal, we have high expectations from our customers and you will help us deliver on them by providing exceptional technical solutions in a safe, cost-effective, and responsible manner.

THE ROLE:

  • Demonstrating a “Safety First” focus;
  • Conducting a full range of mine engineering functions including strategic modeling, short-term forecasting, design, drilling/blasting, reclamation, exploration and engineering analyses
  • Working collaboratively with the Technical Services team, Mining Operations, Maintenance and the Coal Wash Plant;
  • Learning to identify, develop, and follow through on new business opportunities;

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Mine Engineering;
  • Registration, or the ability to register, as a Professional Engineer or Engineer in Training (EIT) in Alberta;
  • A minimum of 3-5 years relevant experience with an emphasis on open pit mine planning, design and scheduling. Mine operations experience is an asset.
  • Previous experience in a technical services role within a mining company;
  • Previous experience working on technical mining projects and contributing to technical reports;
  • Appropriate experience in utilizing mine planning, design and scheduling software packages;
  • Excellent communication skills including report writing and presentation skills;
