How would you like to get paid for spending time outdoors in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains?  Westmoreland Mining Holdings LLC – Coal Valley Mine is currently looking for two Environmental Technicians to join our growing environmental team. 

This opportunity will be based at the Coal Valley Mine, just south of Edson, Alberta. As an export coal mine specializing in high quality coal, we have high expectations from our customers and you will help us deliver on them by providing exceptional environmental support in a safe, cost-effective, and responsible manner.


Under the supervision of the Environmental Superintendent, the Environmental Technician is responsible for maintaining and ensuring environmental compliance throughout the 81 square kilometer mine site. This will include:

  • Demonstrating a “Safety First” focus;
  • Addressing environmental concerns by identifying short-term and long-range issues, recommending options and courses of actions, and writing reports;
  • Gathering and reporting on water quality information throughout the entire mine site;
  • Coordinating vegetation management program;

Job Requirements


  • Post-secondary education in environmental studies preferred;
  • Preferred 3-5 years relevant experience with an emphasis on mine waste water management;
  • Excellent communication skills including report writing and presentation skills;
